There is probably no one who understands the challenges of our insurance market more than healthcare providers. Every day they labor under the burden of paperwork and coding requirements, fighting with insurers to get authorization for procedures and payment for clean claims. Negotiations for reimbursement rates can become bitter - with patients caught in the middle.
Tom knows that, at the end of the day, insurers do not provide healthcare - providers do. Tom will work to make sure rate negotiations are fair and free, that claims are paid on time, and that we accelerate the movement to electronic and standardized systems that reduce the hassle of navigating the insurance system for providers.
Tom also served on the Joint Study Committee that drafted Georgia's tort reform laws. He will work vigorously as insurance commissioner to uphold those laws and bring greater competition to the med-mal insurance market.
